It is almost 24 hours since members of the paramilitary police, PIU have been captured on video severely beating a human being like a dead donkey.
Yet until now, neither the IGP nor the Minister of Justice nor the Minister of Interior nor the President and not even the National Human Rights Commission, The Gambia felt it necessary to speak to this gross abuse of power, act of barbarism and blatant disregard of human rights and the rule of law!
Not even The Gambia Bar Assocition nor TANGO nor any CSO felt so outraged as to deliver a fitting statement to condemn this gross destruction of human rights and dignity!
Not even the political parties, more so the UDP felt agitated to speak to this gross misconduct and sheer abuse! By the colours of his shirt and the occasion, it appeared the victim is a UDP supporter!
What’s happening? What are they waiting for? Why is everyone silent?
In no civilized society will such animalistic action be watched with silence and disregard!
All Gambians must rise up to demand full and urgent accountability right now. The IGP must tell Gambians who these abusive officers are and what disciplinary actions is he taking against them!
