Lamin JK Sanneh Dismisses Claims That Only a Coalition Can Unseat Barrow

Lamin JK Sanneh, Deputy Administrative Secretary for Social and Fundraising of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has rejected assertions that a political coalition is the only means of removing President Adama Barrow from office, insisting that the UDP is capable of mounting a strong challenge independently.
Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Sanneh acknowledged the importance of unity among opposition parties but cautioned against portraying coalition-building as an act of desperation.“I’m not saying we don’t need to go into a coalition,” he said. “What I’m saying is we need to come together. It is not a desperate position that we have to do these to remove him,” he said.
Sanneh confirmed that the UDP is currently engaged in coalition discussions with other political parties while simultaneously preparing for multiple political outcomes ahead of future elections.
“If we agree as a coalition, we are ready. If there is no agreement, I know we will have parties joining us,” he said.
He further emphasized that numerical strength is a critical factor in politics and argued that the largest opposition party should naturally assume a leadership role in any coalition arrangement.
“Politics is numbers,” Sanneh said. “If you tell me UDP has the best policies, they have the numbers, and they have brains, and whoever leads that team is not good enough to put that team together. Honestly, something is wrong somewhere.”
Sanneh concluded by urging opposition parties to set aside internal differences and concentrate on their shared national objectives. “We need to sit down together and say, look, what is the objective here? We all have a common objective to fix this country,” he said.
