Lamin JK Sanneh, the Deputy Administrative Secretary for Social and Fundraising of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has described the outcome of the recent Kaiaf by-election as a positive development for his party, citing increased voter support and a reduced winning margin compared to previous elections.

“We have grown; it is a positive result for us,” Sanneh said.

According to him, the UDP recorded a 2.3 percent increase in its vote share compared to the 2023 elections, while the National People’s Party (NPP) saw its winning margin significantly reduced.

“If you look at the statistics, we have grown by 2.3 percent. The winning margin has dropped from 340 to 231, so it’s very positive for us,” he stated.

Sanneh also emphasized that political parties employ different strategies to secure electoral victories, stressing that the UDP remains committed to what he described as clean and issue-based politics.

“Everybody tries to use a different strategy to win. We will keep the politics that we have been used to—clean politics—and sell our agenda. We don’t intimidate people and don’t buy votes,” he said.

He further alleged that state resources were used during the campaign period, claiming that government officials attended rallies using state vehicles.

“It is not hidden. If you look at the pictures of their rallies, you will see the GGs parked over there using our fuel, our drivers, and everything to campaign for the NPP,” he said.

Commenting on the Bantanjang by-election, Sanneh argued that the combined opposition vote exceeded that of the ruling party. “Look at the results in Bantanjang, the opposition won. If you add the vote, they have more votes than the NPP,” he said.
