Lamin J. Darboe to Represent Amie Bojang in Court of Appeal.

Lawyer Lamin J. Darboe has said he will represent Amie Bojang in the Court of Appeal after her former lawyer, L.K. Mboge, withdrew from the case following a dispute over her decision to grant a media interview while the appeal was pending.
Speaking to Kerr Fatou, Mr. Darboe confirmed that he would assume responsibility for Bojang’s legal representation.
“I’ll represent Amie,” he said.
Mr. Mboge withdrew after advising Ms. Bojang not to comment publicly on the case while it remained before the courts. In his notice of withdrawal, he said she proceeded with the interview despite his advice, leaving him with no choice but to step aside in order to protect his professional reputation.
Mr. Darboe is already representing Ms. Bojang’s brother, Ousainou Bojang, in the State’s appeal against his acquittal. He will now also lead Amie Bojang’s defense in the appellate proceedings.
Commenting on the appeal process, Abdoulie Fatty, the secretary general of the Gambia Bar Association, said the Court of Appeal would not rehear evidence or conduct a new trial. Instead, he said, the court’s role is to determine whether the High Court committed legal or procedural errors in reaching its decision.
“What the Court of Appeal is now doing is not to call them to go into the box,” Mr. Fatty said. “It’s simply going by what is before them, what Justice Jaiteh had presided over; they look and say whether Justice Jaiteh got it wrong or got it right.”
Amie Bojang and her brother, Ousainou Bojang, were acquitted and discharged by the High Court in 2026.
Ms. Bojang had been charged as an accessory after the fact to murder. Prosecutors alleged that she assisted her brother following the fatal shooting of Police Constables Sang J. Gomez and Pateh M. Jallow at the Sukuta-Jabang traffic lights in September 2023.
Ousainou Bojang faced two counts of murder, as well as charges of terrorism, attempted murder, and grievous bodily harm arising from the same incident. The High Court acquitted both siblings of all charges, but the State subsequently appealed the ruling, bringing the case before the Court of Appeal.
Earlier this month, the Court of Appeal adjourned Amie Bojang’s appeal until Oct. 20, 2026, to allow her time to obtain new legal representation following Mr. Mboge’s withdrawal.
