Lamin Touray, a close ally of Kebba Madi Bojang’s emerging political movement, has dismissed reports alleging that Kebba Madi Bojang and his team were chased away by APRC supporters in Foni. Touray clarified that they had attended the occasion following an invitation from some APRC members but left after being informed that President Barrow would attend the meeting.
The denial follows the circulation of an audio recording in which an APRC member claimed that Kebba Madi Bojang and his entourage were driven away “like a dog” by APRC supporters.
“Since the change of government, we have maintained a peaceful relationship with the APRC. We have never had any political conflicts with them. Such statements need to be made responsibly,” Lamin Touray emphasized. “To be clear, the APRC did not chase Kebba Madi or his team. In fact, APRC members came to Kebba Madi’s compound seeking support to host their meeting. While we acknowledge the APRC’s efforts to organize their meeting, we want to dispel any false narratives.”
Touray explained that it is customary in Gambian political culture to seek assistance from respected community figures for important events. “Kebba Madi is well-known for supporting community initiatives, and this will continue. When APRC supporters approached him for support, Kebba Madi generously contributed by purchasing a bull for the meeting.”
He further recounted that upon arriving at the meeting venue in Foni, the group was initially asked to wait until a speaker had finished. Seating arrangements had already been made for Kebba Madi, but they were later informed that President Barrow would be attending the meeting, prompting their decision to leave. “We wanted to avoid any misunderstandings or appearances of disrespect. At no point was Kebba Madi chased away. These claims are baseless,” Touray asserted.
The APRC recently held a meeting in Foni Kampant attended by party leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta along with other executive members and supporters. Meanwhile, Kebba Madi Bojang, who remains National Youth President of the National People’s Party (NPP), is reportedly involved in efforts to form a new political party.
