Information Minister Denies Bojang Siblings Spent Night at Mile 2 After Re-Arrest

Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Ismaila Ceesay has denied claims that siblings Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang spent the night at Mile 2 Central Prison after they were re-arrested at the prison gate shortly following their acquittal and discharge by the High Court.

Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Dr. Ceesay responded to a listener’s question, saying the two were briefly rearrested but were released after authorities determined the arrest should not have taken place.

According to the minister, the incident was promptly corrected, and the siblings were not detained overnight at the prison.

“We never sent anyone to Mile 2, and they never spent the night in Mile 2. The moment they were re-arrested, they were released again when we realized that that should not have been the case. So this government can defend itself, and that is a fact; anybody can attest to that,” Dr. Ceesay said.

Dr. Ceesay also rejected suggestions that the government arbitrarily imprisons individuals, maintaining that all detentions are carried out in accordance with the law and established legal procedures.

“We have not sent anybody to Mile 2 without following due process,” he said.

His remarks come amid public discussion surrounding the brief re-arrest of the Bojang siblings after the High Court acquitted and discharged them, an incident that drew widespread attention and prompted questions about the circumstances surrounding their temporary detention.
