Henry Gomez, a presidential adviser and leader of the Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), on Sunday described the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) as more than a political party, calling it a training ground for the country’s next generation of political leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led alliance during the GMC’s congress, Mr. Gomez praised the party’s role in mentoring young politicians and urged members, particularly young supporters, to remain committed to the organization rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere.

“GMC is not only a political party but a political academy, nurturing young politicians for tomorrow,” he said.

Mr. Gomez encouraged young party members to be patient and contribute to the party’s long-term growth, cautioning them against leaving in response to promises from rival political parties. Such promises, he said, often fail to materialize.

“The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know,” he told delegates.

He also called for unity among party supporters, arguing that national peace and development depend on collective effort across the country.

In his remarks, Mr. Gomez praised President Adama Barrow’s administration, saying The Gambia had recorded significant development under his leadership. He urged GMC members to continue strengthening the party and remain confident in its future.

“Hold this party, believe in it, and help it grow,” he said.
