Suwaibou Sissoho’s family got to know about his death on Thursday at 2.a.m.

A Gambian national, Suwaibou Sissoho, has been killed in Iran reportedly by human traffickers after defrauding his family $12000 (D56, 400)

Sissoho, whose father confirmed his death to Kerr Fatou on Monday, left Gambia in June 2018 for Iran with the intention of proceeding to Turkey.

The 35-year old native of Numuyel, Basse constituency, got himself entangled with traffickers who kidnapped him for ransom.

Suwaibou was severely beaten and left to die, the family said on Monday. He was discovered by an unspecified Gambian student studying medicine in Iran who took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We paid $800 in the past Ramadan but they would not release him. They requested for more. When we called, they refused talk to us on the phone… I also paid $600 but they said they have not received that,” said his father Dembo Sissoho.

“Each time we called, he cried on the phone. He said they beat him and did not give him food…”

The Sissoho family were unable to identify the people who kidnapped him.

His wife said they have three children.

Meanwhile, the family is yet to receive any official communication from the Gambian officials or the embassy in Saudi Arabia.

However, the family is talking to relatives to make arrangements to bring the body home.

“We are talking to our relatives to bring home the body… So far we have not heard any communication from the Gambian embassy in Saudi,” added Dembo.
