The Gambia Armed Forces has confirmed that Sanna Manjang, a former member of the paramilitary hit squad known as the “Junglers,” is currently in custody. The disclosure comes amid reports that several individuals were recently detained in connection with ongoing security operations.

GAF spokesperson Malick Sanyang said Manjang’s detention has been verified, but cautioned that the identities and nationalities of others reportedly arrested have not yet been established.

“It is my understanding that the referenced Sanna Manjang is indeed under custody, but others allegedly rounded up are not confirmed to be Gambians at this point,” Sanyang said. He added that Gambian authorities are working closely with their counterparts in the region to ensure the appropriate procedures are followed.

“There is close collaboration with our counterparts for the needful to be done and in a timely manner,” he said. “Further details are expected to be out as soon as possible in line with developments relative to this story. Meanwhile, please be patient while we await further details, as this is being treated with the attention it deserves. A more detailed statement will follow soon.”

Manjang, who fled the country after the fall of the Jammeh regime, has been implicated in several high-profile human rights violations documented by the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.
