The Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, Rohey John Manjang, has called on residents of Sabach Sanjal to actively participate in the democratic process by registering and voting in the forthcoming presidential election.

Speaking at a political rally organised by the National People’s Party (NPP) over the weekend, the minister underscored the importance of voter engagement, stressing that the ballot remains the ultimate measure of leadership.

“Those seeking leadership are many, but it is only the vote that will judge us all. It comes down to two simple actions: register and cast your vote,” she said, urging eligible citizens to take responsibility for shaping the country’s future. She added that voting represents both a personal right and a collective voice.

Hon. Manjang also responded to critics who argue that government development projects are funded solely by taxpayers’ money. She noted that Gambians have paid taxes since colonial times, including during the administrations of Dawda Jawara and Yahya Jammeh, questioning why similar levels of development were not evident in previous eras.

“It is not about tax alone,” she said. “If the North Bank Area Council were to deduct salaries from all the taxes it collects, the remainder would not even be enough to construct one kilometre of road in a year. Tax is important, but development also requires leadership, vision, and commitment.”

She attributed recent progress in communities across The Gambia to strong political will, adding that effective governance is driven by ambition and a genuine desire to serve.

The minister concluded by commending the development initiatives of Adama Barrow, stating: “We all know the work President Barrow has done for The Gambia.”
