Economist Dr. Ousman Gajigo has announced the formation of his new political party, the Patriotic Progressive Alliance (PPA), as he awaits official registration approval from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Gajigo confirmed that all required documentation has been submitted to the IEC and that the party will be formally launched once registration is finalized.

“We will formally launch the party once we hear from IEC and we are formally registered,” Dr. Gajigo said.

He noted that he currently serves as the leader of the PPA, though the party’s flag bearer will be selected through a transparent internal process.

Outlining the motivation behind the new party, Dr. Gajigo said the PPA was born out of deep concern over the direction of the country. “The way the country is moving is not tenable. Our economy is in a terrible state. Billions of Dalasi are being wasted,” he lamented.

He criticized the current administration for what he described as poor governance and economic mismanagement, saying Gambians deserve a credible alternative.

“The current government is not up to the task. The idea of this thing proceeding like that into the future is something that is unacceptable. And we believe that we need to provide the Gambian people with an alternative,” he added.
Dr. Gajigo emphasized that the PPA’s mission is not merely to unseat the government but to replace it with one that is capable, accountable, and committed to solving the country’s pressing challenges.

He further stated that while there are many political parties in The Gambia, few offer genuine hope or transformative ideas. Adding that what Gambians need is “real change.”

On potential partnerships, Dr. Gajigo expressed willingness to collaborate with other political entities, but only on the basis of shared values and goals. “I am open to alliances, but only with the right parties and individuals who share our vision for real change in The Gambia,” he explained.

He categorically ruled out joining the current government, citing his motivation to serve the Gambian people and bring about real change. “There is absolutely no chance for me to join the Adama Barrow government. I am not looking for money or position; I am looking to serve the Gambian people,” he declared.

The Patriotic Progressive Alliance thus positions itself as a new political movement promising accountability, reform, and a fresh direction for The Gambia’s future.
