The Secretary General and party leader of the UDP, leader ANM Ousainu Darboe, has declared that the Gambia First Coalition alliance is rooted in trust, sincerity, and a shared goal of rescuing the country, saying the December 2026 election must produce a government focused on the Gambian people.
Addressing alliance partners at the MoU signing on Friday, Mr. Darboe described the event as historic and the start of a genuine partnership.
“What we have affirmed here today with our signatures and public pledge of cooperation goes beyond the agreement we have just formalized. It is a vivid demonstration that diversity in politics can always inspire and drive unity in the pursuit of shared values,” Mr. Darboe said.
He emphasized that while the alliance parties may differ, they share a common denominator: wanting a government focused on the priorities of Gambians. He said the UDP respects the ideas of each partner and will work collectively in the national interest.
The UDP leader called on other opposition parties not present to join, saying there are no unresolvable issues separating them. He outlined a vision for a new government that fights corruption, protects national resources, and delivers on targets within a mutually agreed five-year reform agenda.
Mr. Darboe also urged diaspora supporters to keep up their efforts and told UDP members to embrace alliance partners.
“They are us, and we are them. Let us march back lockstep, be each other’s inspiration, and accord every single partner maximum love and respect,” he added.
He concluded by saying Gambians deserve a government in December 2026 that achieves its goals and restores pride to the nation.
