Coalition 2026 has adopted three documents setting out how the opposition alliance will select its presidential flagbearer, govern its internal affairs, and conduct its campaign ahead of The Gambia’s December 2026 presidential election.

The documents were approved during the coalition’s 13th strategic session, held on Saturday, July 18, at the Baobab Hotel in Bijilo, the alliance said in a statement.

They include eligibility criteria for prospective flag bearers, a framework governing the coalition’s structure and operations, and a candidate-led campaign model.

The coalition said the selection criteria were intended to ensure a transparent, inclusive, merit-based, and credible process. Prospective candidates will be assessed on their integrity, leadership experience, national acceptability, and commitment to the coalition’s core principles.

The guiding framework defines the structure, governing principles, and working arrangements for participating political parties, movements, and civil society organizations. It also establishes procedures for decision-making, dispute resolution, power-sharing, and collective accountability.

Under the candidate-led model, the eventual flag bearer would take the lead in shaping the coalition’s policy agenda, campaign messaging, and nationwide outreach in consultation with other coalition members.

The alliance said the model was designed to promote unity and coherence while presenting Gambian voters with a single national message.
