A 26-year-old British national, Dereeka Rena Brown, has been arrested at the Banjul International Airport after authorities discovered two suitcases containing 60 packs of suspected cannabis ruderalis (commonly known as skunk).

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), in collaboration with the Joint Interdiction Taskforce (JAITF) stationed at the airport, made the arrest on 15 October 2025 at around 6:00 p.m.

According to DLEAG, Brown had arrived in The Gambia onboard an SN Brussels flight from Brussels.

“The suspect is currently in custody while investigations into the matter continue,” DLEAG said in a statement.

DLEAG is the national agency responsible for enforcing and coordinating all activities related to the control of illicit drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
