The Brikama Area Council (BAC) has entered into a Twinning Agreement with the Municipality of Amgala in the Kingdom of Morocco, marking a new milestone in international cooperation between the two municipalities. The agreement was signed by BAC Chairman Yankuba Darboe during the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Glorious Green March held in Es-Samara, Morocco.

According to a statement from the Brikama Area Council, the partnership seeks to strengthen bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between the people of The Gambia and Morocco. It also aims to advance shared development goals in key areas such as culture and tourism, economy and handicrafts, education and youth empowerment, environmental protection, sustainable development, and the promotion of arts and information and communication technology (ICT).

A Joint Twinning Committee will be established to coordinate the implementation of joint initiatives and monitor progress under the partnership framework.

During the signing ceremony, Chairman Yankuba Darboe reaffirmed the council’s commitment to building meaningful international alliances that enhance local governance, empower communities, and create new opportunities for youth engagement and sustainable growth.

The BAC described the new agreement as the beginning of a promising chapter of collaboration grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a collective pursuit of progress between the Brikama Area Council and the Municipality of Amgala.
