By Buba Gagigo

Two revenue collectors from the Banjul City Council (BCC), Jojo Sanyang and Ndey Ida Gaye, have confirmed reimbursing missing funds amounting to D4,900 and D760, respectively. However, both insist that the funds were originally handed over to the cashier, who later denied receiving them.

Testifying before the Local Government Commission, Jojo Sanyang recounted how he was informed of a discrepancy in the funds he had collected.

She further stated that after confirming the payment, she was told the discrepancy was due to an issue with the cashier, identified as Oumie Darboe.

“About that money, I was called by the fraud squad, when I went there I was informed that i had a suppression of D4900. I asked them how because I was not aware. The person I met there, took out a receipt and asked me whether I recognized it, it was a receipt attached to my cash book. I told him it was my receipt but I paid the money to the cashier. He asked me whether I paid the money, and I responded positively. He told me to leave. He said it was the fault of the cashier. The name of the cashier is Oumie Darboe.” Jojo Sanyang one of the BCC Revenue Collectors told the Local Government Commission.

Similarly, Ndey Ida Gaye, another revenue collector at BCC, testified regarding the D760 discrepancy.

She answered, “Yes! I paid the money to the cashier when I closed from the field but the cashier said I didn’t pay the money to her. I was the one who refunded the money.”

Their testimonies follow an earlier appearance by Assan A. Jallow, an internal auditor at BCC, who told the Commission that D300,000 was disbursed to Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe without justification.
