The Brikama Area Council (BAC) will next week disburse D28 million in ward development funds to the 28 wards across the West Coast Region, Chairman Yankuba Darboe has announced.

The disbursement, scheduled for February 26, 2026, will allocate D1 million to each ward to support locally identified development priorities. The initiative forms part of the council’s broader efforts to promote community-driven development and strengthen grassroots governance in the region.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Chairman Darboe highlighted the cumulative impact of the council’s ward-level funding over the past three years.

“This year’s disbursement amount of D28 million Dalasis, when added to the disbursements of 2025 (D28 million) and 2024 (D14 million), would give a total amount of D70 million Dalasis of revenue returned to the people and communities of the region (in cash) in 3 years by the BAC,” he stated.

According to the chairman, the annual allocations have facilitated tangible development projects in every ward, with communities determining their most pressing needs and priorities.

Darboe also commended residents of the West Coast Region for their continued compliance with tax obligations, noting that prudent revenue collection and management have made the disbursements possible.

“Such disbursements would not be possible without the support of the people of the region in the payment of their fair share of taxes and the people who collect and manage the same, not stealing it and lying about it,” he said.

He assured the public that the council remains committed to transparency and accountability, emphasizing that all funds are being properly accounted for and that projects will be implemented strictly for the benefit of the respective wards and the region at large.
