Almameh Gibba, Member of the National Assembly for Foni Kansala, has called on opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2026 elections, emphasizing that collective action is essential to redirect the country from its current trajectory.

In an interview with West Coast Radio, Gibba stressed that divisions within the opposition could hinder efforts to bring meaningful change. “It is high time for us to join forces and make sure we salvage our country. I think the boat is already sinking,” he said.

Gibba also warned of rising political tensions as the presidential elections approached. “We saw yesterday a crisis at Brufut. I think it is a signal for the rule of law; more and more is yet to come. We will see more of this before the election period,” he noted.

He urged Gambians to prioritize unity over division. “So what I’m just putting to the Gambian people is it is better for us to unite for a change than to be divided, and the oppositions, when they are not in talking terms, and they are not ready to put their house in order, it’s going to be very difficult for us to make gains,” he added.

Addressing concerns specific to his constituency, Gibba reaffirmed his commitment to advocacy on local issues. “To my people of Foni we made it very clear to the president and his cabinet that on the Foni issue, we will no longer be silent on it. If they don’t want to take action, we will take action,” he stated.
