DLEAG Arrests 20 Men in Anti-Drug Operations Across Three Regions

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) said it had arrested 20 men during a series of anti-drug operations conducted across three regions as part of its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, dealing, and substance abuse.

In a statement issued by the agency, DLEAG said the arrests were carried out between July 7 and July 12, 2026, in the Kanifing Municipality, West Coast Region, and North Bank Region.

According to the agency, six of the suspects were arrested in the Kanifing Municipality, 13 in the West Coast Region, and one in the North Bank Region. The operations resulted in the seizure of suspected ecstasy, cannabis sativa, cannabis resin, skunk, kush, and crack cocaine, as well as the discovery of cannabis plantations. 

Arrests in Kanifing Municipality
DLEAG said Pap Biram Njie, 24, of Tallinding, was arrested at the Barra Ferry Terminal on July 11 after officers allegedly found him in possession of 98 ecstasy pills and two sachets of suspected cannabis ruderalis, commonly known as skunk. Officers also impounded a black motorcycle that had no registration number.

On July 12, Alagie Saine, 32, of Ebo Town, was arrested at the Barra Ferry Terminal after officers allegedly recovered 61 ecstasy pills concealed in a transparent nylon bag.

Later that day, Hagie Jawara, 35, of Manjai Kunda, was arrested with two bags containing suspected kush, the agency said.

Arrests in the West Coast Region
Among those arrested was Alagie Sonko, 22, of Kololi, who was allegedly found on July 11 with 26 pieces of suspected cannabis sativa.

On the same day, Saikou Touray, 21, of Tanji, was arrested with 38 wraps of suspected kush, while Yusupha Ceesay, 25, of Sukuta Nema, was allegedly found with 38 wraps and additional quantities of suspected cannabis sativa.

At the Kalagi checkpoint, officers arrested Lamin Drammeh, 29, of Jareng, on July 11 after allegedly discovering two stones of suspected cannabis resin and one sachet of suspected skunk.

On July 10, Saikou Susso, 41, of Brikama Gidda, was arrested with one block of suspected cannabis resin, according to DLEAG.

The agency also arrested Matar Gisseh, 28, Pa Modou Nyass, 38, and Ensa Saidy, 28, in Sanchaba on July 10. Authorities said the three men were found with eight bags of suspected skunk and five blocks of suspected cannabis resin.

Other arrests in the region included:

  • Muhammed Barry, 19, of Bijilo, allegedly found with one bundle of suspected cannabis sativa on July 11.
  • Yaya Touray, 18, of Kartong, arrested on July 10 with 21 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
  • Dawda Ceesay, 34, of Kololi, arrested on July 10 with one block of suspected crack cocaine.
  • Lamin Touray, 22, of Tujereng, arrested on July 9 with 19 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
  • Muhammed Ndow, 22, of Fajara, arrested on July 9 with eight bags of suspected skunk.
  • Sarjo Jallow, 29, of Bijilo, arrested on July 9 with 32 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
  • Lamin Manneh, 37, of Batokunku, arrested on July 9 after officers allegedly discovered seven cannabis sativa plantations.
  • Bubacarr Mendy, 45, of Brufut, arrested on July 7 with eight parcels of suspected cannabis sativa.

Arrest in the North Bank Region
In the North Bank Region, Ebrima Jane, 19, of New Jeshwang, was arrested on July 8 after officers allegedly recovered five stones and two pieces of suspected cannabis resin.

DLEAG said all of the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. The agency said the operations form part of its broader strategy to disrupt the distribution of illicit drugs and reduce drug-related crime across the country.

The allegations against the suspects have not been tested in court, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
