The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), in collaboration with the Gambia Navy and the Spanish Guardia Civil stationed in The Gambia, has intercepted 71 irregular migrants in a coordinated maritime operation conducted on 9th June 2026.

The operation also led to the recovery of a migrant vessel and other associated items at Denton Bridge in Banjul.

In a statement, the GID confirmed that those intercepted comprised 29 Gambians, 27 Senegalese, 9 Malians, and 6 Guineans. All 71 individuals were male.

The department said the operation reflects strengthened inter-agency cooperation between national security institutions and international partners in addressing irregular migration.

It added that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration pathways, while enhancing border control and maritime security across The Gambia’s territorial waters.
