The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, Demba Sabally, has told residents of Foni Bondali that the provision of key infrastructure such as electricity and roads lies solely with President Adama Barrow and his government, and not opposition parties.

Speaking during Tobaski celebrations in the Foni area, Sabally urged residents to remain cautious of opposition rhetoric, arguing that opposition groups lack the capacity to deliver essential development projects to their communities.

“Those in the opposition cannot even provide two electric poles for the villages,” he said, warning residents against being misled.

The minister acknowledged longstanding concerns over access to electricity in the region, but reiterated the government’s commitment to nationwide electrification.

“We are aware of your need for electricity, and President Barrow has repeatedly assured Gambians that, regardless of where they live, they will have access to power,” Sabally stated.

He admitted that government processes can be slow due to administrative procedures, but maintained that the Barrow administration remains committed to delivering both electricity and road infrastructure to underserved areas.

Sabally further emphasized that improving the living standards of Gambians remains a central priority of the president, noting that access to electricity is critical to achieving that goal.

He cautioned that individuals seeking to incite dissatisfaction or turn communities against the government risk undermining development efforts and hindering progress.

The remarks come amid ongoing political engagement in the Foni region, where infrastructure development continues to be a key concern for residents.
