Bakary K. Badjie, National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang Karanai and leader of the United Gambian Front (UGF), has called on both the APRC Alliance and the No To Alliance movement to join his party in what he characterised as a collective effort to serve the national interest.
Badjie issued the appeal on Sunday, May 3, 2026, during a UGF rally held at the SSP Football Field in Brikama, West Coast Region.
Addressing supporters at the event, Badjie directed his first appeal toward the No To Alliance. “The first people I will call on to come and rescue the country are the No To Alliance,” he said. “No To Alliance, come and join UGF and rescue this country.”
He then turned his attention to members of the APRC Alliance, urging them to abandon their current political affiliation. “To the APRC Alliance, I am appealing to you. I understand that some of you are here—leave Adama Barrow and come and join us to rescue the country,” he said.
Badjie was keen to frame the call as one rooted in shared national purpose rather than personal political ambition. “Let us all come together and rescue our country. It is not as if you are helping me,” he told the crowd. “If you vote for me, then we have helped ourselves to rescue ourselves.”
Reinforcing that message, the UGF leader drew a distinction between personal comfort and public duty. “I once told my friend that if The Gambia does not vote for me, that will be my peace. But if The Gambia votes for Bakary, then that is Bakary’s downfall and progress for The Gambia,” he said.
Badjie also pointed to his legislative record to lend credibility to his political message. “At the National Assembly, all the parliamentarians from Kartong to Koina agreed that I speak the truth,” he said, “but now, what is difficult is agreeing to the truth.”
