The leader of the APP-Sobeya party, Essa Mbye Faal, has called on youth and women at the Serekunda Market to participate in the ongoing supplementary voter registration exercise to ensure they are eligible to vote in the December 5 presidential election.

Speaking during a tour of the market, captured in a video shared on his social media platforms, Faal emphasized that meaningful political change can only be achieved through active civic participation, particularly by obtaining voter cards and voting on election day.

“We want to help change The Gambia, but the country cannot be changed just by talking and saying we need change. You must get your voter cards and cast your votes on Election Day for change,” he stated.

He further expressed confidence in his candidacy, noting that collective support would be key to electoral success. “I believe I am the best candidate, and with your assistance, we can win the election,” he said.

Addressing women vendors at the market, Faal said he had been informed of concerns that foreign traders exert more influence than local vendors. He acknowledged their contributions through daily market dues and stressed the need for improved facilities and support systems.

He pledged that, under his leadership, the welfare of women would be prioritized. Among his proposals was the establishment of a dedicated bank focused on women’s economic empowerment.

According to him, such an institution would be more effective than distributing funds through intermediaries, including party women leaders. “With us in the presidency, the situation of women in The Gambia will change. If you support me, The Gambia will move forward. There will be no tribalism or favoritism in workplaces,” he added.
