The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment has concluded a nationwide tour aimed at strengthening pre-departure procedures and promoting safe and regular migration pathways across The Gambia, officials said.

The outreach campaign, conducted from March 5 to March 13, was organized in partnership with the International Organization for Migration as part of the second phase of the ministry’s efforts to engage regional authorities and local stakeholders in discussions on labor mobility and migration governance.

According to a statement published Monday on the ministry’s official Facebook page, the tour brought together regional governors, district chiefs, and members of regional technical advisory committees to discuss key issues surrounding migration and employment abroad.

Officials said the meetings focused on emerging migration trends, ethical recruitment practices, and lessons learned from circular migration programs, including labor mobility arrangements with Spain.

The initiative was intended to increase public awareness of legal migration channels and the responsibilities associated with overseas employment.

“By engaging regional authorities and traditional leaders, the ministry hopes that accurate information will reach communities nationwide and help potential migrants better understand both the opportunities and responsibilities associated with circular migration schemes,” the statement said.

During the engagements, participants also developed regional action plans aimed at improving pre-departure support for Gambian workers seeking employment abroad. Regional authorities pledged to strengthen coordination and follow-up measures to enhance the protection of migrant workers and improve migration management across the country.

Officials said the tour forms part of broader efforts by the government to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration while expanding legal employment opportunities for Gambians overseas.
