The West Coast Regional Command of the Gambia Police Force said it arrested 19 people during a coordinated raid in Brikama Dirimakolon on Tuesday as part of an operation aimed at disrupting criminal hideouts and activities linked to social vices in the area.

Police said the operation formed part of broader efforts to strengthen crime prevention and improve security across the region.

Before officers were deployed, the chief of operations for the Upper West Coast Region, Bambo Conta, briefed personnel and urged them to maintain vigilance, professionalism, and discipline throughout the exercise. He stressed that proactive policing remained critical to ensuring a safe environment for residents and businesses.

The operation involved officers from the Anti-Crime Unit as well as patrol teams from Brusubi and Banjulinding. Police said the teams were led by Inspector Kebba Jobe, Lamin Jammeh, a deputy commissioner of police, and Inspector Conteh.

According to the police statement, the 19 individuals arrested during the raid are undergoing screening and further processing.

“The Gambia Police Force continues to intensify proactive policing operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities, addressing social vices, and maintaining peace and security across communities,” the statement said.

Police officials said such operations would continue as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard communities and deter criminal activity in the West Coast Region.
