The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has dismissed an officer implicated in impersonation and unauthorized withdrawals at the Brikama Police Cooperative Credit Union, following the circulation of a video on social media showing the officer attempting to steal funds.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the GPF confirmed that the officer—whose name and rank were withheld—had fraudulently presented himself as another member of the credit union in an attempt to access the individual’s account.

“His actions were detected by staff, and he was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police,” the statement said.

According to the GPF, an internal investigation revealed that multiple unauthorized withdrawals had previously been made from members’ accounts. The inquiry concluded that the officer was guilty of impersonation, fraudulent conduct, and gross professional misconduct.

As a result, Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray approved his immediate dismissal from the force.

“Following a thorough internal investigation, the officer was found guilty of impersonation, fraudulent conduct, and gross professional misconduct. As a result, the Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, has dismissed him from the Gambia Police Force with immediate effect,” GPF’s statement stated.

The GPF stressed that the officer’s actions were an isolated case and do not reflect the values, ethics, or professional standards of the institution. The statement reaffirmed the force’s commitment to enforcing discipline and taking firm action against any officer who violates the law or internal regulations.

“The Gambia Police Force assures the public of its unwavering commitment to integrity, accountability, and the highest standards of service to the nation,” the statement concluded.
