Police Arrest Gambian Man Over Murder of Nigerian National

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has arrested a Gambian national, Wurry Barry, in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Nigerian national, Gabriel Adiaga, who was residing in The Gambia

According to a police statement released on their official Facebook page, a friend of the deceased reported Adiaga missing on October 14, 2025, after his family in Nigeria had been unable to contact him for several days.

“Acting swiftly, investigators at the Serekunda Division launched a search operation and initiated preliminary inquiries around the victim’s residence,” the police said.

The following day, October 15, 2025, officers discovered a partially burned body near Sting Corner, later identified as that of Adiaga. Police said the discovery prompted an intensified investigation, which led to the arrest of Wurry Barry within eight hours. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Further police investigations revealed that a violent altercation had occurred between the two men at the victim’s residence on October 13, 2025, resulting in Adiaga’s death.

“Investigations revealed that on October 13, 2025, a violent altercation occurred between the duo at the deceased’s residence, leading to his subsequent death.”In an alleged attempt to conceal the crime, Barry reportedly cleaned the scene, transported the body to a secluded area near Sting Corner, and attempted to burn the remains along with other items. He is also said to have returned to the residence later to remove bloodstains and further destroy evidence.

“He later returned to the victim’s residence to clean bloodstains and further destroy evidence.”

The GPF reported that investigators recovered several critical exhibits, including the suspected murder weapon (an iron rod), blood-stained clothing, the victim’s motorcycle and house keys, and other forensic evidence. These items are currently being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said the suspect remains in custody and will be processed in accordance with due legal procedures, while investigators continue efforts to establish the motive behind the killing.

“The GPF investigation team demonstrated outstanding professionalism and due diligence, successfully uncovering the face behind this gruesome act within a remarkably short period. This outcome reflects the growing capacity of the force to employ intelligence-led policing and forensic investigation in solving complex crimes,” the police said.

The police extended their appreciation to community members and partner institutions for their continued cooperation and support in police operations.
