The Unite Movement for Change on Friday distributed 120 motorbikes to its ward committees across all 120 wards in The Gambia, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilization and improving the mobility of its local representatives.
Party officials said the initiative was part of a broader effort to deepen engagement with communities and reinforce the party’s organizational presence at the local level.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ebrima Dibba said the motorbikes were intended to empower grassroots operatives, emphasizing that effective political organization depends on sustained support for those working within communities. He described the nationwide distribution as a significant logistical undertaking and urged recipients to remain disciplined and focused.
“As youth, we can do it, and we are capable of it. Then let us all put in the effort to prevent a third term of the presidency. Let us teach anyone who wants to go beyond two terms a lesson to never forget,” he said.
Another party member, MC Cham Jr., characterized the development as a milestone for the movement, pointing to what he described as rapid progress within a short period. He encouraged supporters to participate in the ongoing voter registration process, stressing the importance of securing voter identification.
“Saying you want Unite and Talib Bensouda and you do not have a voter card, then your love is limited. Our voter cards are our power and voice, so go get yours,” he noted.
Matty Kanyi also addressed attendees, calling for unity within the party and underscoring the role of cohesion in achieving its political objectives. She described the movement’s vision as inclusive and focused on national renewal.
The distribution of motorbikes follows a series of logistical investments by the party, including the recent provision of vehicles to its regional offices, as it seeks to expand its reach and operational capacity nationwide.
