Alagie S. Darboe, Senior Administrative Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has called on party members and supporters to remain united and focused as the party gears up for the 2026 presidential election, warning that the road ahead will be challenging.

Speaking at the UDP’s convention in Seattle—where the party reportedly raised over seven million dalasis within hours—Darboe stressed the need for solidarity and purpose-driven action.

“I call on all members and supporters of the UDP to remain united and focused. Let us rise above divisions, put country first, and work tirelessly for victory in 2026. The road to 2026 will not be easy. We will be tested. But I am confident that if we remain principled, united, and forward-thinking, we shall prevail. Let us not be divided by personalities. Let us be united by purpose. Let us not lose sight of the larger mission—to deliver The Gambia from inertia into a future of hope, justice, and prosperity,” he said.

Darboe underscored that the UDP’s mission goes beyond political ambition, framing it as a generational duty.

“To the youth who yearn for change, to the elders who long for stability, and to the diaspora who demand progress—UDP hears you. UDP is ready. UDP shall rise. Let us go forth together—for country, for democracy, for the future,” he said.

He described the upcoming 2026 election as a defining moment for the nation.

“The 2026 Presidential election is not just another political contest; for many of us it is a “must- win”—a battle for the soul of the Gambian state, for generational justice, and for institutional reform, for the future of our country,” he said.

Darboe concluded by urging UDP supporters to work collectively, placing national interest above personal or factional considerations. “It is critical that we work together in unity and with purpose. This is not the time for division or personal attacks. The party has direction—an approved calendar of activities for 2025, which entails a vigorous campaign towards 2026,” he said.
