The Gambia and South Sudan Establish Diplomatic Ties

The Gambia and the Republic of South Sudan have officially established diplomatic relations, marking a new chapter in the partnership between the two nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad announced on September 25, 2025, that Minister of Foreign Affairs Sering Modou Njie signed a Joint Communiqué with his South Sudanese counterpart, Monday Semaya K. Kumba, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The agreement, according to the ministry, represents “This milestone agreement lays the foundation for strengthened ties and enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest, fostering friendship and collaboration for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries,” the ministry stated.

In addition to the signing, Minister Njie also held bilateral talks with Yván Gil Pinto, Minister of the People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including education, health, energy, transportation, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration and consolidating the long-standing partnership between The Gambia and Venezuela.
