Takaful Gambia Limited on Wednesday issued a $170,000 insurance payout to Alport Banjul, settling a claim for a company machine that was accidentally submerged in water. The payment represents the full insured value of the equipment.

The settlement highlights the role of commercial insurance in helping businesses absorb unexpected financial shocks, while underscoring Takaful Gambia’s commitment to meeting its contractual obligations.

According to company officials, the claim was filed after the machinery was damaged during an operational incident. Takaful Gambia dispatched a team to assess the site and begin the claims process, which included an inspection and a formal report submitted to its reinsurer.

Ndenneh Senghore, the company’s chief executive, said the process was handled “diligently and professionally.”

“We do not have any problem in settling this claim simply because we are also fully reinsured. We also thank our reinsurer for their support in respect of settling this claim together with our co-insured as well. We handle this claim diligently and professionally. When the claim occurred, we were notified, and we sent our representatives to come over to conduct an inspection and give the report, and that report was communicated to the reinsurance,” he said.

Cem Ozturk, Ports Manager at Alport Banjul, welcomed the payout and praised the insurer for its transparency.

“Today, Takaful Insurance is compensating us for one of our risk takers, RS11, that has unfortunately fallen into the sea, and the value of the machine was 170,000 US dollars, and the claim process was so smooth and transparent, and we are glad to receive a total amount of 170,000 US dollars as a cost of the same crane,” Ozturk said.

He added that all claims submitted by the company had been processed “according to proper procedures,” emphasizing the importance of reliable insurance partnerships for business continuity.

“Today, we reaffirm our cordial relationship with Takaful Insurance, and all claims submitted have been processed according to proper procedures,” he said.
