Yusupha Darboe, a prominent figure within the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) UK Chapter, has resigned from the party, citing dissatisfaction with the treatment of Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda.

In his resignation letter, Darboe said his decision was driven by what he described as the party’s unfair handling of Mayor Bensouda, which ultimately compelled the latter to withdraw his flagbearer application and step down as National Campaign Secretary.

“My decision is primarily influenced by the manner in which Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda has been treated by the party, which regrettably led to his withdrawal of his application for flagbearer and subsequently his resignation from his position as National Campaign Secretary,” Darboe wrote.

He praised Mayor Bensouda’s leadership qualities and described the events as “deeply troubling,” stressing that they contradict the principles and values he upholds.

Darboe further explained that, given these developments, he could not in good conscience continue serving with the UDP.

Despite his resignation, he expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the party and conveyed best wishes to those who remain committed to advancing democracy, justice, and development.

“I part ways without malice and with deep respect for those who continue the struggle for democracy, justice, and development under the banner of the UDP,” Darboe noted.
