The National Assembly member for Latrikunda Sabiji and a senior figure in the Unite Movement for Change congratulated newly elected party officials this week, urging them to model discipline and professionalism as public representatives.
“You are the true ambassadors of UNITE,” said Hon. Sanyang, addressing delegates at a regional congress. “Your conduct in public must always reflect decorum and professionalism.”
In a separate statement posted on his official Facebook page, Mr. Sanyang highlighted the party’s efforts to elevate women in leadership, noting that women now make up 40 percent of UNITE’s regional structure. He described the figure as evidence of the party’s commitment to moving beyond rhetoric toward concrete action.
“At UNITE, we don’t just talk about empowerment; we take action,” he said, calling on Gambian women to join the party and seek leadership roles.
Mr. Sanyang also urged tolerance and restraint in the face of criticism, pointing to Talib as an example of someone who avoids confrontations on social media. “When they go low, let’s go high,” he said, encouraging officials to represent the party with dignity.
The party, he added, is working to recruit thousands of women to help lead, contest elections, and shape the future of The Gambia.
Beyond politics, UNITE announced a donation of tracksuits valued at 125,000 dalasis to the Foni Wrestling Committee, a move Mr. Sanyang said was intended to strengthen grassroots wrestling and promote youth participation in traditional sports.
Committee members expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying it would help motivate athletes and deepen community engagement.
