The Minister of Agriculture, Demba Sabally, has told residents of Foni Kayaborr that President Adama Barrow’s administration is the only entity capable of facilitating the return of former president Yahya Jammeh while also delivering development to the region.

Addressing a political rally in support of the NPP candidate for the Bantanjang Ward councilorship by-election, Sabally said President Barrow’s government holds the key to both Jammeh’s possible return and tangible development outcomes for the people of Foni.

“It is President Adama Barrow and his government that can bring Yahya Jammeh back into this country. It is President Adama Barrow’s government that can bring roads, electricity, and gardens to you,” he told the crowd.

He urged residents to vote for Abdoulie Badjie, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, arguing that a vote for the ruling party was essential for local development.

“If you love yourselves and want development in your communities, vote for Abdoulie Badjie,” Sabally said, describing the candidate as the link between Bantanjang Ward, the Brikama Area Council, and the central government.

The minister criticized the ward’s late councillor, claiming that little development was achieved because he was not aligned with the government.

“I want you to know that if you vote for the No-To-Alliance councillor again, the same situation will continue,” he said. “For your progress and the future of your children, vote for Abdoulie Badjie.”

Sabally also accused Foni’s National Assembly Members—Almameh Gibba, Demba Sanneh and Bakary Badjie—of greed, alleging that they benefited from government scholarships to study at the University of The Gambia while earning substantial monthly incomes.

He claimed the lawmakers receive more than D100,000 each per month and argued that they should have used their salaries to pay their tuition, leaving government scholarships for less privileged citizens.

“These are the same people asking you to oppose the government,” Sabally said. “They all benefited from Barrow’s government through UTG scholarships. The vehicles they are driving cost about D3 million, and it is President Barrow’s government that provided them.”

The minister further remarked that before the current administration, lawmakers lacked basic means of transport and earned significantly lower salaries.

Concluding his remarks, Sabally said elections should be about personal and community advancement, stressing that such progress, in his view, can only be achieved through alignment with the government.
