President Adama Barrow on Sunday pledged to expand support for youth development through sports, education, and skills training, underscoring his government’s commitment to creating opportunities for young people.

Speaking during the final of the “President Barrow Ramadan Peace Tournament” at Serrekunda West Park, Mr. Barrow said increased investment in sports infrastructure and participation remained a priority.

“This is why we continue to increase investment in sport development in terms of improving infrastructure, participation, and performance,” he said in remarks delivered during the second half of the match.

He urged young people to use sports as a platform for positive engagement, promoting peace and national unity, and to let the tournament inspire excellence both on and off the field.

Mr. Barrow described his support for the tournament, which bears his name, as a reflection of his commitment to developing sports nationwide. He added that it also signaled his administration’s resolve to empower youth by investing in their talents and ambitions.

Highlighting football’s unifying power, he said the sport fosters discipline, teamwork, and respect—values he called essential to building peaceful communities and advancing national development.

The final drew senior government officials, including cabinet ministers, the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, and presidential advisers.
