President Adama Barrow has called on the Banjul City Council (BCC) to invite his government to the inauguration of the newly built BCC office complex in Banjul, saying, he didn’t want a repeat of what happened at KMC during the inaugurations of their new office complex to happen in Banjul.

“I am happy to see the Deputy CEO of Banjul City Council, Omar Touray, here with us. But I want to make one thing clear to the BCC, and that is, the new BCC complex is constructed with 90% of funding from the Central Government. With that amount of funds, you should know that the government is the one building the office complex. Therefore, I don’t want a repeat of what happened at KMC (when they didn’t invite the government to their office inaugurations) to happen with the BCC. When the office complex is ready, call the government to lead and open the building and give you the keys,” he said.

To this end, he called on Gamworks, the government agency supervising the project, to reach out to the Ministry of Local Governments to hand over the keys to the government to inaugurate the new office complex.

“We are in this work together, but we are the central government, then we deserve the honor and respect. Work with us, that is the only way we can do the work together. The council must work with the government because if there is no central government then the council will not exist. Therefore, we must come together to make the work easy for all of us,” he said.

The president made these remarks in Banjul while wrapping up his meet the people’s tour in Banjul.
