President Adama Barrow has welcomed the Republic of Guinea’s return to democratic governance and called on member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to support the country in consolidating its democratic transition.

President Barrow made the remarks upon his return from Conakry, where he attended the inauguration of Guinea’s President-elect, General Mamadi Doumbouya. He described the end of military rule in Guinea as a significant milestone and a fresh beginning for democracy in the sub-region.

He noted that both he and ECOWAS remain firmly committed to democratic principles and the rule of law, stressing the importance of regional solidarity in supporting Guinea’s transition.

“It is important for all of us to be present and to support their new democracy,” President Barrow said.

Emphasizing his personal commitment to democratic governance, President Barrow stated that supporting President Doumbouya and the Guinean people would help facilitate Guinea’s reintegration into the ECOWAS community and strengthen regional cooperation.

“Personally, I am a big fan of democracy and the rule of law. So I believe we should go support President Doumbouya and the Guinean people so that they will come back to the family of ECOWAS and let us work together to develop our sub-region,” he said.

President Barrow further underscored the importance of unity among West African nations, noting that regional cohesion strengthens collective progress. He congratulated President Doumbouya and the people of Guinea and commended them for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
