President Adama Barrow has laid foundation stones for the construction of several feeder roads in the Lower River Region (LRR) and West Coast Region (WCR), as part of efforts to improve farmers’ access to markets and essential social services.

The initiative forms part of a nationwide tour launched on March 28 to roll out a World Bank-supported road infrastructure project under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security’s Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV).

The roads earmarked for construction include Sare Jamma to Minna (4.5 km) in LRR; Gjonkil, Kewel, Kangmamudu to Kampassa (4.3 km) in Foni Jarol, WCR; Wasadou, Adullay, Fass Chabai, Kangiramba Busary to Bulengant (7.0 km) in Foni Jarol; Bondali to Jorem Bundakunda (4.2 km) in Foni Bondali; Burambang, Bulegant, Tibat, Kankurang to Bambara (7.5 km) in Foni; and Nyentempo, Fass Chamen, Nfee, Jending, Jilahar to Bulunto (7.2 km) also in Foni, WCR.

Addressing residents during a meeting in Foni, President Adama Barrow assured communities that his administration is committed to equitable national development, emphasizing that no region would be left behind.

He noted that the people of Foni deserve to benefit from development opportunities they had missed over the past five decades under former leaders such as Dawda Jawara and Yahya Jammeh.

“I will deliver development to all Gambians without discrimination. What we are witnessing now is only the beginning; the real transformation will accelerate following my victory in the 2026 presidential election,” he said.

President Barrow further pledged to return to Foni with additional development projects, noting that the region is set to receive a significant share of the total road network under the initiative.
