The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) candidate for Banjul’s mayoral election, Ebrima Jawo, endorsed Ebou Faye, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for Banjul, on Wednesday.

Reacting to the news, Kebba Jallow, Party Leader of the PPP, told Kerr Fatou that he saw the news and that his party will convene a meeting to discuss the matter this evening.

“I saw it but it may be done by himself and not the party. But the party will sit over it today evening. He has the right to endorse anybody but he’s our candidate as a party,” PPP leader Kebba Jallow told Kerr Fatou.

Mr. Jawo was the subject of a story in the Standard Newspaper edition of April 4th where he denied directly negotiating with the NPP for a possible endorsement of Ebou Faye. However, in that story, he alluded to his family having discussions with the NPP for a possible endorsement.

“They are negotiating and talking to my family as we speak but I have personally not been involved in any kind of negotiations or anything. I can assure you of that,” Jawo told The Standard.

With today’s development, those negotiations have bearded fruit for the NPP candidate.

It could be recalled that the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) selected Ebrima Jawo to be their candidate for mayor of Banjul after the National People’s Party (NPP) excluded them from their list of coalition partners for the local government elections.
