Police Caution Public Against Unlawful Obstruction of Vehicle Movement

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups allegedly planning to obstruct or restrict the movement of vehicles—particularly those bearing foreign registration numbers—from entering or leaving the country.
In an official statement, the police described such actions as illegal, emphasizing that they contravene both national laws and regional protocols.
“The Gambia, as a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), upholds the principles of free movement of persons, goods, and services across member states, a right guaranteed under the ECOWAS Protocol,” the statement read.
The GPF clarified that there is no government directive or policy restricting the operation or movement of foreign-registered vehicles within The Gambia. It further warned the public to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise, describing them as false, misleading, and intended to cause confusion.
The statement added that the police will take firm action against anyone who engages in activities that disrupt public order, obstruct roads, or interfere with lawful trade and transportation.
“The GPF hereby warns all individuals or groups against any act that may disrupt public order, obstruct roads, or interfere with lawful trade and transportation. Anyone found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement warned.
Reaffirming its mandate, the Gambia Police Force assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and security, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the free and unhindered movement of people, goods, and services throughout the country.
