Police Apprehend 19 Alleged Irregular Migrants in Bonto Village

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has apprehended nineteen alleged irregular migrants at the Bonto Village riverside, following an operation conducted on October 7, 2025.
According to police sources, the group comprises sixteen Senegalese nationals, two Gambians, and one Malian. They were intercepted by officers from the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) stationed at the Bottrop checkpoint.
“Acting on credible intelligence, PIU officers swiftly proceeded to the location where the individuals were found,” the police said in a statement.
Following their arrest, the individuals were escorted to the PIU base in Brikama and handed over to officials of the Gambia Immigration Department for further investigation and necessary action.
Preliminary reports indicate that the intercepted migrants told police they were awaiting a boat that was to transport them to Spain.
The Gambia Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and to safeguarding national security through proactive law enforcement operations.
