The Alkalo of Nyangen Village in the Central River Region (CRR), Baboucarr Nyang, has alleged that the regional Governor, Ousman Bah, confiscated his official Alkalo stamp due to his son’s political involvement with the opposition United Movement for Change (UMC).

Speaking in an interview with Kerr Fatou alongside his son, Mbye Nyang, the Alikalo explained that he was summoned by the Seyfo of Niani and instructed to appear before the Governor with his official stamp. Upon arrival, he said the Governor took possession of the stamp.

“I was called by Seyfo Pierre Bah, who informed me that the Governor wanted to see me and that I should bring my stamp. When I arrived, I found other Alkalos present. The Governor greeted everyone except me. After some time, he called me inside and demanded that I hand over my stamp. When I asked why, he became angry,” Nyang recounted.

According to the Alkalo, the Governor later accused him of allowing his son—an active supporter of the UMC and the party’s regional chairman—to use the official stamp.

“He told me he had been informed that I had given my stamp to my son, who is involved in opposition politics and leads the United Movement for Change in the region,” he said.

Nyang further alleged that the Governor objected to his son’s political stance, suggesting it was inappropriate and likening the situation to aiding an adversary.

“He said my son should not be involved in opposition politics and accused me of effectively handing over authority to someone working against the government. He compared it to giving a sword to an enemy,” Nyang added.

The Alkalo maintained that he entrusted the stamp to his son due to his advanced age and limited mobility, noting that similar arrangements are common practice among other village heads.
