Political analyst Musa Jeng has warned that the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) should be concerned about growing public disapproval of President Adama Barrow’s administration, according to recent survey findings. He emphasized that the party needs to take the high disapproval ratings seriously.

“I mean to me if I were part of the NPP they need to go back to the drawing board because there is a serious problem when you look at this data. Seriously I would be very concerned if I were part of the NPP,” He Said.

Jeng noted that government programs and initiatives alone do not guarantee continued public support. He highlighted widespread perceptions that the current administration is underperforming in economic management compared to previous governments.

“Managing the economy you have been president for 10 years there are a lot of things that you have done over 60 percent believe that you are not managing the economy very well. What does that say to you? It’s very very troubling when even compared to the past two presidents 58 percent are saying that they did better than you did,” He Said.

While acknowledging the government’s investments in infrastructure, Jeng argued that these efforts have not translated into increased public confidence.

“Here is someone who has invested a lot in infrastructure. The person has supposedly brought access to electricity and power, all of these things,” He Said.

He added that citizens, regardless of education level, are aware of the issues affecting their daily lives and judge the government accordingly.

“They know what their interest is and they do believe that this government is performing poorly when it comes to affordability, is performing poorly when it comes to even the trust factor,” he added.

Jeng also called on President Barrow to step aside to allow fresh leadership, which he believes is essential for strengthening the country’s democracy.

“President Barrow needs to step aside, give the country a chance for our democracy. Our democracy is weak, it hasn’t been consolidated and he needs to step aside,” he said.
