The Ministry Of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) statistics on the 2021 Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination (GABECE) showed that more boys scored aggregate six than girls.

Of the 19 students with aggregate six, 12 are boys, while 7 are girls with twelve (63%) from the public schools and seven (37%) from the private schools, the tally.

According to the statistics, 26,147 pupils sat for the GABECE, of which 11,340 were boys and 14,807 were girls. However, the results of about 418 candidates are not included in this tally due to the delay in the submission of their Continuous Assessment (CASS) marks by their schools.

The statistics added that 7,068 girls get aggregate 42 or less, while 5,286 boys get aggregate 42 or less in this year’s GABECE.

The statistics continued that the number of students with aggregate 42 or less has increased from 12,148 in 2020 to 12,354 in 2021. In terms of volume, more girls than boys scored aggregate 42 or less for the last three years.

However, the boys in private schools got 3 scores of aggregate 6 and 9 in public schools given a total of 12; while the girls in private schools scored 4 aggregate 6 and 3 aggregate 6 in public schools given a total of 7 aggregate 6
