The Ministry of Youth and Sports has donated seven floodlights valued at 385,000 dalasis to the Brikama Sports Committee, officials said this week, in a move intended to strengthen preparations for the annual Ramadan night football tournament held in honor of Adama Barrow.

The lights will be installed at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium, where the “H.E. President Adama Barrow Ramadan Night Football Tournament” is scheduled to take place. Organizers say the equipment will address lighting problems that hampered last year’s competition and ensure that matches can be played safely after dark.

At a brief presentation ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, described the donation as part of the government’s broader effort to expand opportunities for young athletes.

“Brikama football deserves the best facilities,” Mr. Badjie said. “These floodlights will allow the youth to showcase their talent safely and proudly.”

Bulli Dibba, the chairperson of the Brikama Sports Committee, said security arrangements were being finalized to guarantee what he called a smooth and disturbance-free tournament.

Mahmoud Lamin Jawla, the acting executive director of the Gambia National Sports Council, praised the initiative, describing sports investment as a practical tool for youth empowerment and community engagement.

Officials expressed confidence that the improved lighting would enable the Brikama Mini Stadium to host competitive night matches without interruption, raising expectations for a successful tournament season.
