MC Cham Jnr, Business Councilor at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and a member of the United Movement for Change (UMC), has stated that the United Democratic Party (UDP) is unlikely to form any coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

Speaking in a recent interview, Cham argued that the UDP’s approach to politics and its treatment of former members could undermine its ability to build alliances or achieve broad-based support.

“No political party will form a coalition with the UDP, and I promise you that because even if you form a coalition with them and they win, they will say you are a small political party and you don’t have people,” he said.

Cham criticized what he described as inconsistency within the UDP regarding loyalty and membership, accusing the party of celebrating individuals when they are within its ranks but vilifying them once they leave.

“UDP as a party: if you are there, they will celebrate you, but if you are out of the party, you become the problem. They have said a lot of things about Momodou Sabally, and today he is here,” he said.

Cham also pointed to what he views as hypocrisy in how the party now praises individuals who were once its critics.

“Alagie Kurang stood and said UDP and NPP are 6 and 9; anything bad in the NPP is in UDP, and today Alagie Kurang is their hero with everything he said about the party,” Cham remarked.

The UMC councilor’s comments come as political alliances and realignments continue to shape the landscape ahead of the 2026 presidential polls.
