The Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) has partnered with Yonna Group’s subsidiary, Yonna Wallet, to introduce a fully digital ticketing and payment system designed to transform road travel across the country.
The new service, accessible through the Yonna Wallet app, enables passengers to purchase tickets, reserve seats, and even book on behalf of others—all without the need for cash transactions. The move is being hailed as a landmark development for The Gambia’s transport sector.
Speaking at the launch, GTSC Deputy General Manager Ba Lamin Darbo described the initiative as a reflection of shared national values of innovation and progress. He noted that Yonna Wallet’s extensive reach would make ticket purchasing more convenient by bringing services closer to passengers’ homes and workplaces.
“No longer will our customers have to travel long distances or wait endlessly in queues just to secure a seat. This system places the passenger at the center and gives them more choice, more convenience, and more confidence,” he highlighted.
Yonna Wallet General Manager Momodou Barrow underscored the significance of the partnership in advancing digital transformation in The Gambia. He explained that Yonna Wallet has evolved beyond money transfers into a full-service digital platform, tested and trusted by thousands of users.
He praised GTSC for embracing the innovation, noting that the partnership could serve as a model for other national institutions. “Our banking and finance teams will ensure that all ticket revenues are safely secured and fully reconciled. This ecosystem is unmatched in the country,” Barrow affirmed.
“Our banking team and finance team will ensure that all funds generated from the sales of tickets will land safely in your account with us, and in terms of reports and reconciliations, assurance will be given to you that whatever you need, the full team will support you,” Barrow said.
He went further to outline that this makes their ecosystem very friendly and it is compared to none: “You will not have any operator in the country that has what we have.”
Amadou Drammeh, Director of Traffic Operations at GTSC, described the initiative as both a technological leap and a response to passenger expectations. “We are delighted to collaborate with Yonna Group Gambia. a partner that shares our vision for a smarter, safer, and more accessible public transport system in the Gambia. Together we are paving the way for a new chapter in mobility and connectivity of our people,” he said.
The GTSC–Yonna Wallet partnership marks a significant step in The Gambia’s transition to a digital, efficient, and customer-focused public transport system, with promising benefits for travelers and the national economy alike.
