Abdoulie Jallow, a member of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has rejected the findings of a recent Gambia Participates opinion poll that placed support for GDC leader Mama Kandeh at 2 percent, describing the figure as an inaccurate reflection of the party’s political strength.

Officials of Gambia Participates have said the survey was conducted before the GDC entered into an alliance with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). Jallow, however, argued that even before the alliance, the poll did not accurately capture the GDC’s level of support across the country.

He pointed to the party’s recent rally at the buffer zone as evidence of what he described as the GDC’s strong grassroots following and mobilization capacity. Jallow said the size of the crowd at the gathering was inconsistent with a party commanding only 2 percent of national support.

He also disputed the poll’s positioning of the GDC below UNITE, arguing that the GDC has a broader political base than the survey suggests.

Jallow expressed confidence that the GDC’s alliance with the NPP and other partner parties would translate into a commanding performance in the December presidential election.

“We know what we have, and we know what is going to happen in the December election,” Jallow said. “It will be the biggest win that is ever going to happen in this country for the NPP-GDC alliance with other partnered parties.”

The GDC’s decision to join forces with the NPP has reshaped its role ahead of the election, with the party now campaigning as part of the broader alliance seeking to retain the presidency in December.
