The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has confirmed the arrest of 46 youths at Lamin Lodge on Friday, September 5, 2025, while attempting to embark on irregular migration.
According to police sources, the individuals were first transported to the Bundung Charge Office for preliminary assessment before being handed over to the Immigration Department in Tanji for further processing.
In a statement, the police announced plans to establish a joint investigation panel with the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) to examine possible criminal networks facilitating such journeys. “As part of police efforts to suppress criminal syndicate groups, a joint investigation panel of the police and the GID will be instituted to determine criminal liabilities,” the statement read.
The GPF further urged young Gambians to desist from irregular migration and instead explore safer and lawful pathways to improve their livelihoods.
Irregular migration remains a critical challenge in The Gambia, with many youths perceiving it as a last resort to escape economic hardship and seek better living conditions abroad.
