The Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has defended President Adama Barrow’s recent comparison of Brufut to Dubai, citing what he described as the area’s rapid infrastructural transformation in recent years.

Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Dr. Ceesay said the pace of development in Brufut mirrors the swift modernization experienced by Dubai, particularly in terms of road construction and improved public amenities.

“Yes, Brufut is like Dubai. The quick transformation of Brufut, Dubai, transformed so quickly from almost nothing to today, everybody’s talking about Dubai. So if you look at Brufut also, it has taken the same trajectory in terms of quick transformation,” he said.

Dr Ceesay noted that the development extends beyond a single road, pointing to three major road networks that now link Brufut to surrounding communities. “From Wullinkama to Brufut is one road, from Gamtel to Brufut is another, and from Ghanatown to Brufut is the third. These roads were unusable during the rainy season, but today, they have transformed,” he explained.

He further argued that the improved road network, alongside modern infrastructure and high-quality buildings emerging in the area, supports the President’s comparison.

“So the rapidness of the infrastructural transformation can be akin to what happened in Dubai,” he said.

Recalling conditions in the recent past, he added that accessing Brufut during the rainy season was once extremely difficult. “Two years ago, if you take that road from Gamtel into Brufut, it is like different rivers that you had to go through to get into Brufut when it rains, but today that is gone, so the rapid transformation of Brufut from somewhere with, infrastructurally speaking, nothing, to today, what is there, it is like Dubai,” he said.
